GENETICS - COAT COLORS

The Mi-Ki Club of America has always been a leader in the health and well being of the Mi-Ki as a breed.

We were the first organization to have mandatory regulations set for our breeders, including, CERF, OFA PATELLA, MICRO -CHIPPING and DNA, certification, of our breeding stock and all puppies produced.

Today, no other Mi-Ki Club has set this mandatory standard for their club or their breeders.

Since we have now accomplished that goal, we therefore feel it is time to move forward into the Genetics of Coat Colors.

As many Mi-Ki fanciers and breeders know, the Mi-Ki dog, from puppyhood on, can have it's coat colors change several times during it's development into adulthood. So as the oldest established club, we are announcing our panel of   Mi-Ki Fanciers who wish to "Color Coat" our breeding stock. We wish to establish which of our dogs carry certain coat color genes that can not be seen with the naked eye, but only by specific tests now available through certain genetic labs. Many breeders are interested in the RED coat coloring known to us as "IRISH SETTER RED," while others are concerned that very few true BLACK coat colored Mi-Ki dogs now appear in the breed into adulthood. Since Black Pigmentation is a very important part of our breed standard, and we want to preserved the " BLACK " gene in our future generations, not only in coat color, but in pigmentation of nose coloring, eye rim coloring, and foot pad coloring.

Our Group Consists Of Breeders From Different Clubs,  But We All Have The Same Common Goal:

To Produce:

"IRISH SETTER RED" LONG COATED, MI-KI DOGS

We have gathered together to breed by Genetic Testing To Hopefully Produce Long Coated "Irish Setter Red" Adult Mi-Ki that stay red. See Our Short Coated "Irish Setter Red" That Has Been Introduced To Our Long Coated Lines Below.
